Detailed information on Antique Early 20th Century Tiger Oak Phonograph Music Cabinet by Edison

ANTIQUE EARLY 20TH CENTURY TIGER OAK PHONOGRAPH MUSIC CABINET BY EDISON

With our absolute highest compliments Bay Colony Antiques takes the utmost pleasure in offering this wonderful antique music cabinet. This cabinet was constructed during the earlier part of the 20th century as an increasing amount of families began to incorporate floor standing disc phonographs into their homes. This model cabinet is slightly shorter than the earlier versions which had built in instruments and crank handle mechanisms. Many of these phonograph cabinets are designed with lesser quality wooden cases that are stained dark to simulate mahogany. This example is designed closer to the prevailing Arts & Crafts style of the early 20th century with bold tiger oak selected for the construction of the case and simplistic lines free of carving and ornamentation. We do note several veneer losses which are apparent in the photos however the cabinet is in overall exceptional condition.

The top of the cabinet lifts open with a large brass hinge that allows for a standard or home phonograph to be placed on the felt lined interior as the top may need to remain open indefinitely without any further support. The original gold decal inscribed \"Edison\" has remained undisturbed throughout the past century of use. The single cabinet door opens to reveal ample storage intended for music components and cylinder rolls on earlier models base on the same design. The cabinet has developed a warm depth of color which brings out and enhances the full beauty of the quartersawn tiger oak grain. We believe that this piece is both perfect for any antique music lover and also makes for the ideal storage cabinet with a variety of potential uses. The cabinet measures 18” wide x 20 1/4” deep x 29 3/4” tall.
